Lexile 렉사일 지수는 어떻게 활용되나?

개인의 영어독서 능력과 수준에 맞는 도서를 골라 읽을 수 있도록 미국 교육 연구 기관 Meramerrics사에서 개발한 독서능력 평가지수입니다. 미국 20개 주에서 사용되며 가장 공신력 있는 지수로 활용되고 있습니다.

Lexile 렉사일 지수 단계는 몇 단계일까?

렉사일 지수는 13단계로 이루어져 있습니다. 미국학년 1, 2학년이 우리나라 초등학교 저학년 수준이고, 미국학년 3, 4학년이 우리나라 고학년 수준이라고 생각하시면 됩니다. 미국학년 5, 6학년이 우리나라 중학생 수준이고, 그 이후부터는 고등학생과 대학생 수준의 책이라고 생각하면 어느 정도 맞습니다.

렉사일 지수 단계별 책의 수준은 아래와 같습니다. 아마 보시면 바로 이해가 가실 거라 생각합니다. 이런 단계별 책은 개인마다 차이가 있기는 하지만 어느 정도 읽기 수준을 짐작할 수 있습니다. 수준을 고려해 읽어야 하는 이유는 먼저 흥미를 잃지 않도록 해주고, 영어라는 언어의 확장을 자연스럽게 접할 수 있게 도와줍니다. 렉사일 지수 기준 미국 3학년 우리나라 초등 고학년부터는 어법을 조금씩 배우면서 읽으면 더욱 효과를 볼 수 있습니다.
