간접의문문의 이해하기 위한 전제 조건

3. 간접의문문을 영어문장에 쓰는 방법 익히기

 
Can you tell me where she put her keys?
해설: 간접의문문에서는 주어 + 동사 순서를 유지합니다. "Where did she put her keys?"라는 직접 의문문에서 **"did"**를 빼고 간접의문문으로 만들면 됩니다.

Do you know what time the movie starts?
해설: 직접 의문문에서는 **"What time does the movie start?"**가 되지만, 간접의문문에서는 주어(the movie) + 동사(starts) 순으로 어순이 바뀝니다.
 
I wonder why they canceled the event.
해설: 직접 의문문인 "Why did they cancel the event?"에서 **"did"**를 빼고 주어(they) + 동사(canceled) 순으로 바꾸어 간접의문문을 만듭니다.
 
Could you explain how this machine works?
해설: 직접 의문문 "How does this machine work?"에서 **"does"**를 생략하고, 주어(this machine) + 동사(works) 순으로 간접의문문을 구성합니다.

** how+형용사로 쓰는 경우도 기억해 두세요.
(1) I wonder how tall he is.
(2) She asked how expensive the dress was.
(3) They were curious how old the building is.
 


She asked me whether he finished his homework.
해설: "Did he finish his homework?"라는 직접 의문문을 간접의문문으로 바꾸면서 **"whether"**를 사용하여 주어(he) + 동사(finished) 순으로 만듭니다.
 
We are not sure when the meeting ends.
해설: "When does the meeting end?"의 직접 의문문에서 **"does"**를 생략하고, 주어(the meeting) + 동사(ends) 순으로 변경하여 간접의문문을 만듭니다.
 
I can’t remember who left the door open.
해설: 직접 의문문에서 의문사 "Who" 뒤에 주어 + 동사 순으로 문장이 그대로 이어지기 때문에, 어순을 바꾸지 않고 그대로 사용합니다.
 

 정리하면
간접의문문은 의문문 공식이 아니라 그냥 일반적인 영어 문장의 어순대로 써서 마치 명사와 같은 역할을 한다고 생각하면 쉬워요
